1994 Chevy C1500 Silverado OBS Custom
We just finished this lowered 1994 OBS pickup. Starting life as a well-maintained Chevrolet C1500 Silverado, Kilgore Kustoms went all-out with custom upgrades and mechanical refurbishment. Highlights include fresh jet black paint by Lewis Rod & Custom, an IHC 4/6 suspension drop, a fresh Jasper 5.7 TBI crate engine, 700R4 transmission, and American Racing Torq-Thrust wheels with Falken tires. The decision was made to keep the original, unrestored interior. The truck is striking with its high gloss paint, polished wheels, wide rubber, and awesome stance.
1994 OBS Chassis and Drivetrain Details
Kilgore Kustoms started with a nice truck with no evidence of crash damage or abuse. The stock chassis was upgraded with an IHC 4/6″ suspension drop with C-Notch. This is a great suspension kit with extra beefy C-notches and similarly heavy-duty control arms painted with a silver Hammertone finish. The rear axle has been relocated above the leaf springs. The IHC kit includes fresh ball joints and bushings, which we installed along with fresh tie rod ends. You can find details for the IHC 4/6 drop kit HERE. While the original chassis has traveled more than 201,000 miles, all of the service parts have been replaced, and the frame is in excellent condition. We replaced all of the disc/drum brake components as well. The rolling chassis is finished off with American Racing Torq-Thrust wheels in a polished finish. Wheels measure 18″ up front and 20″ out back. Tires are Falken Azenis 255/45-18 front and 295/45-18 rear. The truck has been driven less than 100 miles since the restoration.
Under The Hood: Engine, Transmission, and AC
A Jasper Engines crate engine was installed in the original 5.7L TBI configuration. The engine pulls strong and sounds great through a complete Borla stainless steel exhaust system. The truck starts right up and idle quality is excellent. The air conditioning system has been replaced, including a new compressor, condensor, and lines. The AC system blows cold. We installed a rebuilt 700R4 transmission that shifts well.
Body and Interior Details
The body is arrow-straight. Mike Lewis at Lewis Rod & Custom did an excellent job applying the black paint. It has a deep shine and high gloss. A new windshield is installed, and all windows are tinted. Trim and weatherstripping are in excellent condition. The bed is in excellent condition and is covered with a black spray-on bedliner.
The red velour interior is 100% original including the instrument cluster, radio, and controls. Options include power windows, power door locks, a 60/40 split bench seat with headrests, a factory cupholder and factory GM-branded rubber floor mats.
Overall Impressions
The 88-98 C1500 OBS platform is more than 35 years old. Most of the remaining trucks are well-worn. Clean, original examples are increasingly difficult to find. Professionally refurbished and upgraded examples such as this truck rarely come on the market. Restored and upgraded as shown, this truck has a real presence. The tires have just the right amount of sidewall, and the deep black shine really stops you in your tracks. The black-over-red color combo is tough to beat. This is a great opportunity to buy a fresh build. You can forego expensive and difficult aspects of an OBS build, such as paint, suspension, and powertrain. It’s all done here with virtually no miles since project completion.
